Lost Cause Part Two came out on Mighty Force in August 2022. That means that by the time Fragile World comes out in August 2026, I will have been releasing music through this label for exactly four years.
What has working with Mighty Force taught me?
The first thing is what genuine curatorial commitment looks like. Mark Darby makes decisions about what to release based on a coherent set of values, not on what is commercially expedient or what will generate the most immediate attention. The result is a catalogue that holds together as a statement of what electronic music can be. Being part of that catalogue has raised the standard I hold my own work to.
The second thing is that the relationship between a label and an artist should be a real conversation. The best releases I’ve made through Mighty Force have come out of genuine dialogue about what the music is and how to present it. That dialogue doesn’t compromise the work. It clarifies it.
The third thing is that legacy matters. Mighty Force has a history that predates my involvement by thirty years and that history shapes the meaning of everything released on it. Music released on a label with genuine history carries that history with it. That’s not a burden. It’s a gift.
Fragile World will be the second full-length album I’ve released through Mighty Force and I approach it with everything I’ve learned from the first one. I hope it does justice to the catalogue it’s joining.
